Davy & his electro-magnet

We made an electro magnet by winding about 25' of insulated, twisted copper wire around an 24" X 2" soft steel core. We hooked the leads to the winding up to a 6 volt @ 40 amp battery charger for a power source. The magnet was a great success! It would hold a railroad spike easy, maybe a lot more.

For lunch we pulled some turnip greens from the garden and made sloppy joes with ground beef from the steer we killed last year. We cooked and ate outside. Davy said it was a very good day.

Davy & T-Rex Jr.

Davy and I went into the woods for a cookout and Davy found this horned toad. He played with it for a while, but we then put it back where he found it. We don't try to keep them because they are becoming scarce around here and they don't live very long in captivity.

Rice talking

Rice is talking to the neighbor bulls. He still likes to go visit them when he can. We rebuilt some of the fencing so he has a hard time getting there now but he still likes to fuss at them.

The last calf for 2008

Old Red #1 had her calf at last. Davy named her Cunada after his aunt Didia who's birthday was the day before the calf was born.

I've deep plowed the fields for wheat. Didn't get much hay this year, only about 10 bales so I will need the wheat to bale for hay next year.
