Kill the pig

Well, now we do have a house full. Oscar and Gabrial came yesterday evening with Gabrial's wife and little girl. We killed a pig to make sausage and chicharones. Both of those guys are good butchers. It is always nice to see the clean job they do compaired to the chop job that I do. Davy was running around asking questions and wondering what a dead pig would feel like. He wanted to know how I killed it and why there was blood. He thought the pig felt funny after the bristles were removed.

When I get back from NY we are going to kill a steer. Oscar wants to buy half of it to take to Muzquiz for a party for his daughter. I'll get his able help and paid for the half a beef too.

Hotter and Drier

The weather is still hot and dry here. There were fires to the south and to the north of us yesterday. Everything is dry as tinder around here. I've mowed around the trees and the south pasture. I still have more mowing to do over the next few weeks. Nice to have the new tractor with air conditioning. I don't have to eat so much dust.

Davy and Dianita rode with me in the tractor last evening. Davy gets so tired, when he was little I would hold him in my lap and drive and when he got tired I would turn him around and put his little head on my shoulder and let him sleep. Well, he is too big for that now but he still gets tired.

A new heifer calf

Still hot and dry here. We do have a new calf born yesterday. She is all red like her mother and grandmother so I think I'll call her Red number three. That will do until Diana and Davy get back and give her a real name.

Talked to Reiter Friday. He was going to get a swamp cooler. His central air went out and it was going to cost him $1900 to have it replaced. He decided to get a swamp cooler instead. They work okay when the weather is dry, but if the humidity gets high they don't work worth a hoot.
